Souvenir Photographing (2001~2005)  

These pictures are the story of things that is easily seen in Korea. The national assembly building has the dome image and it is imitating the style western dome. I took a picture in front of National assembly building with a dome look-alike hat on. This is the national assembly building of Korea. 
This is a church in Korea. By putting up tinned iron on top of building they keep up religious dignity. Most of Korean church has this tinned iron on top of the building. And let everyone knows that the new church has been settled. I took a picture as same way as before. By putting some hats on, I hold the antique patterned national assembly building and middle aged looking church in Korea in derision
The reason I chose the church and the National Assembly building to satire is because of the symbolism. Buildings only need utility. However, the national Assembly building at least gives people some impression of politic matters. In Korea, especially in my father generation,… because of hunger, there was not enough time to improve the variety of architecture. In that period, when people try to add symbolism to architecture, the solemn and the serious turn out to be comedy.

I run the ground of the National Assembly building. I will write it down if anybody breaks me. However, 
anybody does not let me do that. They recognize themselves that they do not have any authority. 

Dream palace- Bomkle Wedding Hall, 2003

Most of wedding halls in Korea look like palace that appears in story of Cinderella. 
Maybe it’s the result of fitting the outlook of building to the dress. 
As a matter of fact, the culture of wearing wedding dress in wedding ceremony is Kitsch.
And when this kitch flew into Korea, it combines with fantasy.
It is much cost full to enjoy the fantasy in Korea.
Also, a woman who is in the center of the screen acts a one who break down the Simulacra

HA HA HA… / 2003 

I raised up the sign of “HAHAHA…” in front of prefabricated houses which we can easily see in new town including Ilsan. It is neither laughter of a person in the picture nor laughter from houses. As we cannot see any efforts in cheap paintings, for the same reason, the images of prefabricated houses in this project make us to assume that everything happens in under control. At last, the laughter “HAHAHA” is nothing but a collection of meaningless words.
